Pellet stove

Pellet stove

All lodges at 't Lennepserf are equipped with a pellet stove. A pellet stove offers the cosiness of a wood stove and the comfort of a gas fireplace. But the best part is that it heats the room in a natural and sustainable way. Thanks to the biomass system that we have available at 't Lennepserf, the pellets also ensure that the water from the tap is heated in a sustainable way.   Are you curious about the pellet fireplace? In this blog, we provide answers to the most frequently asked questions regarding this sustainable stove.

What is a pellet stove?

A pellet stove is a stove that burns on pellets, a type of wood grains. These grains are made from the sawdust from sustainable forestry, which is mixed with water and then compressed. No (new) trees are cut and no additives are used to produce the grains. From the outside, the pellet stove resembles a wood stove, because you can see the flames through the glass at the front. Inside, however, the stove is equipped with modern technology that regulates and monitors the entire stove. This system ensures ideal and clean combustion of the wood pellets, so that there is no stench in or around the stove or drain.

How does a pellet stove work?

The pellets are stored in the storage tank, from where they're transported using a feed screw to a burner tray. As soon as you switch on the stove, air passes through an ignition cartridge past an electric heating element, causing it to become hot. The hot air is then sucked along the pellets, which gasify and turn into smoke and gas. When the correct temperature is reached (within a few seconds), the gas ignites. The desired temperature can be set via a display or remote control. The smoke that is released, is then blown out through a smoke pipe using a smoke fan. This allows the cross-section of the pipe to remain narrow and it does not have to run up to the roof, as with traditional wood-burning stoves. A pipe of 2 meters long is often sufficient to function properly. If you want to heat your entire house, it is even possible to connect the pellet stove to your central heating system.

What is the efficiency of a pellet stove?

When you buy a stove, you want it to be used as optimally as possible. The efficiency of a stove indicates the extent to which the combustion of the appliance uses the fuel in an optimal way. In the case of a pellet stove, the efficiency can reach more than 90%. This means that only 10% of the energy generated by the pellets is lost through the exhaust pipe.
